... won the Wimbledon Ladies' Singles title in 1959, 1960 and 1964. She also won the US Championships (now known as the US Open) in 1959, 1960, 1963 and 1964. She reached one final in each of the French and Australian championships, but lost both – in 1964 and 1965 respectively.

She also won eleven ladies' (or women's) doubles titles: five at Wimbledon, four in the US Championships, and one each in the French and Australian. Her first doubles title was at Wimbledon in 1958, when she partnered the USA's Althea Gibson. In 1960 she won all four Grand Slam doubles titles, partnering Britain's Christine Truman at the Australian and the USA's Darlene Hard in the other three. Her last Grand Slam title was the women's doubles at the first US Open championships in 1968, when her partner was Australia's Margaret Court.

She also won one mixed doubles title: at the French Championships in 1960, partnering Australia's Bob Howe.
